The instructions were exact: arrive at nine, wear black, and knock only once.

At one minute to nine, Alex stood outside the unmarked door and read the final message again. No greeting. No reassurance. Just six words: You know what is expected of you.

The door opened before the knock had completely faded. Morgan stepped aside, calm and unreadable, leaving exactly enough space to enter.
